| SOLIDARITY WITH THE WOMEN OF COLOMBIA: 14 FEBRUARY 2002 | ||||

(We also invite the pacifist friends around the world to solidarize with our proposal). Dear friends of the Network of Women in Black: Many of you will remember that at the 10th meeting of the Network of Women against War, which took place last year in Novi Sad, we agreed to express the solidarity of all the Network of Women in Black with our friends in the Network who live in areas of war or conflict. In this way we seek to make visible the work of women and our position with regard to war. We have given such support to the women of Israel and of Macedonia, and on 28 December we again expressed our solidarity with our friends in Israel. We remember that on the last Tuesday of each month the women of Ruta Pacifica (Pacific Route) and the Organizacion Femenina Popular (Women’s Organization of the People), are demonstrating as Women in Black in various cities to express their opposition to war and their goal of peace. Our friends of the OFP of Barrancabermeja are going through very difficult times with constant death threats towards them by the paramilitaries, as well as the destruction of one of the houses where they had dining facilities for the people and provided activities for children. Recently, paramilitaries have also threatened to kill the children of two of the OFP members and threats to the women of the OFP are reiterated periodically. The women of the Network of Belgrade and Spain propose that the International Network of Women in Black and similar groups join with our friends in Colombia on Thursday 14 February 2002 in their call for peace in their land and the end of the war.. In this way, we will concentrate our thoughts and energies in supporting all people in Colombia who "want to expunge the war from history and from their lives". Please find attached a communique regarding these matters. Women in Black of Madrid will be responsible for receiving confirmations from all the groups that support their actions in behalf of our Colombian friends and will compile and send the results to the women of Colombia.
